Dear Player,

With the new league season now arriving please find detailed below a few points with regards to the selection process.

1. The captains of each of the teams all sit on a cricket committee alongside myself and teams will be selected based largely on the teams requested by each of the captains, with the higher teams taking priority.

    

2. There will be input from each of the other members of the committee when discussing the composition of a team, and information regarding performances will be exchanged between skippers.

    

3. We will endeavour to ensure some consistency of selection so people won’t generally be promoted or dropped based on one performance – it will be performances over time.

    

4. There is clearly a requirement to balance teams and this has to be taken into account. So if a captain wants two opening batsman/spinners/opening bowlers and three of the required quality are available one will have to be dropped down. Where players are dropped they will be moved to the team below and this in turn can mean some tough decisions for the captain of the lower team!

    

5. Selection is often not easy and there are always a significant number of players who are relatively interchangeable and all of whom probably believe they should be in the higher team! Clearly this is impossible and if not selected for the team you would ideally like to be in then the only way to address is scoring runs/taking wickets where you are selected. Please also be aware that with promotion for both the 3^rd and 4^th teams, and the 2^nd team remaining in DIV 2 we do have a lot of good standard cricket to play so being dropped is not a disaster!

    

6. Training is important both in terms of performance and team building. We will not select based upon attendance at training but it is likely that players who work harder at their game and give themselves the most opportunity to impress the skippers at training will be in a better position to be noticed by the prospective captain

    

7. If you are unhappy about where you are selected or your role in a side please do have a chat with your skipper, Steve or myself rather than just keep it to yourself.

    

8. We have a really, really good group of players. I strongly believe all out teams should be starting the season with the aim of being promoted and looking to play positive, attacking cricket. Over and above this it really is all about enjoying the time spent playing and socialising and to this end enjoying team successes as well as your own achievements gives you a much better chance of enjoying your cricket!

    

9. We will have teams issued on Tuesday evenings BUT PLEASE DO HELP BY HAVING YOR AVAILABILITY UP TO DATE ON LINE!!!!! If you are n’t showing as available and don’t get picked as a result tough!

    

10. There will be a Player of the Month Award for each side on the last Saturday of each month and Player of the Season Awards on the final Saturday of the Season! This will include Sunday sides once the Sunday season gets rolling.
