Chesham CC   w/e 22/04

On the beautiful Tring Park ground Chesham made an encouraging start to the season by beating the Home Counties Premier Div side by 13 runs in a hard fought match. Batting first, Chesham openers made a spritely start but  two wickets had been lost by the time the score had reached 62, both to the wily veteran Simon Stanway. Newly returned to the Chesham fold after several seasons in the High Wycombe wilderness, Alex Morgan went on to reach a well compiled 63. Further good contributions came from Andy Goddard (53), Jason Rance (45) and new member Matt Warner (41) enabled Chesham to total 266 for 8 in their statutory 50 overs.

In reply, Tring, with five Bucks players in their side, began well against a somewhat profligate opening attack and had reached 68  before opener Andrew Dixon fell for 38. Alex Woodland (90), Bucks skipper Mark Payne(44) and Robin Pritchard (28) all batted well and at 221 for 4 Tring looked the likely victors. However, tight spells by spinners Matt Rance and Pip France, who each took a wicket, followed by Jack Mciver taking 4 for 68 and Matt Warner (3 for 29), reduced the home side to an all out total of 253 in the final over.

A poor result for Chesham 2nd X1. An insipid batting display with a total of 143 was easily overtaken by Amersham for the loss of only four wickets with time to spare.

In their Sunday game against Kempston,  Chesham Women were beaten by 8wickets by Kempston after being dismissed for 82 in 20 overs.

This Thursday, 27th April, former England Women’s captain Charlotte Edwards will be visiting Chesham to give a Masterclass, starting 6.00pm.
