Chesham CC  w/e 8th July

In a somewhat edgy contest Chesham, Chesham lacking Morgan,Webb and Mciver for diverse reasons, regained local  bragging rights by defeating Amersham at the Meadow by 3 wickets. A margin that could and should have been greater as the visitors were at one time 59 for 5. However, skipper Andy Viney (41) stood firm but showed some reluctance to leave the crease when adjudged LBW. His staunch resistance was then followed by an enterprising stand of 68 between Hugh Jackson (36) and Sam Helm (29), which, in spite of the collapse of the last three wickets for 3 runs, enabled Amersham to total 184 in the 58th over. For Chesham, Jason Rance (4 for 36) and Pip France (2 for 36) were the most successful bowlers, with Matt Yeabsley, Dom Goodman and Matt Rance each taking a wicket and one important run out. Chesham’s reply began slowly against a hostile opening spell by Sam Helm (4 for 54) and the wiles of Maduka (2 for 47) and Robin Pritchard fell early. However, an excellent partnership of 74 between Matt Rance (48) and Andy Goddard (41) developed before the former was comprehensively bowled by Helm on the brink of tea. Andy continued to fight hard, together with a hard hit 37 by Jason Rance, before both fell when well set. Mark Eteen (27) then played some pleasing strokes to take his side close to the target until three rather careless dismissals gifted Amersham an extra point before victory was eventually gained in the 50th over.

The 2ndX1 achieved another rather disappointing draw at Maidenhead and Bray. This was a game Chesham were desperate not to lose, as M and B had beaten them by ten wickets early in the season but were now below them in the league table. Chesham’s bowlers limited the home side to a total of 177 for 9 in their 52 overs, with Chris Royals (4 for 61) and Umar Aslam (3 for 58) being the most successful and Pete Clifford bowling eleven  miserly overs for twelve runs.. In reply the Chesham batsmen struggled to reach 86 for 6 and then settled for a somewhat unspectacular draw with 126 for 6 in 48 overs. Aslam (31*) top scoring, backed up by Matt Watson in full boring mode. Heres to the  win/lose formula.

Following the withdrawal of Windsor 2nds from the league Chesham 3rds were without a game but the 4ths had a high scoring draw with Woburn Narks 2s. Chesham’s 230 for 5 owed much to Mo Asuaf’s undefeated 103, his second successive ton, nobly assisted by Alex Goodman (46). Alex completed a successful personal day by taking 3 for 35 in Woburn’s total of 230 for 5.

In a friendly match against Batchworth on Sunday, a scratch Chesham X1 totalled a massive 402 for 5 0ff 40 overs. Batchworth were then dismissed for 209 in 33 overs. Remarkably, the two Chesham teenage brothers Wetherall, Monty and Theo, both hit centuries.

Chesham Women go from strength to strength and remain unbeaten in their league after a resounding win over North London Women. Accurate bowling by Tracy Sturges (2 for 2) and Lorett Brendakamp (3 for 8), backed up by tigerish fielding and catching resulted in the dismissal of the home side for only 62. Without further ado, Charlotte Villiers-Smith (29*) and Lorett (22*) saw Chesham home in fine style.
