Chesham CC w/e 15th July
Thanks to a resounding ten wicket victory over struggling Great Brickhill, Chesham find themselves in 3rd place in the Home Counties Div 2 table. Having invited the home side to bat first, Jason Rance was soon amongst the wickets; the first six to be precise. He ended with figures of 6 for 49 in 16 overs. In spite of a rally by the 9th wicket pair, Chesham’s poor man’s Gary Sobers, Pip France, with his mixture of left arm seam and then spin, polished off the tail in the 45th over with 3 for 33 to limit Brickhill’s total to 139. It was soon apparent that this total was inadequate as only two Chesham men, Matt Rance (78*) and Alex Morgan (60*), were required to bat as they stormed to victory in the 29th over without losing a wicket.
The 2nds also had a very satisfying win over top of the table Kidmore End 1stX1 at the Meadow. Chesham were asked to bat and Mark Hughes D’Aeth (23) and Brendon O’Donovan took part in an opening stand of 53 followed BY an excellent partnership of 80 between Brendon and Chris Hedges (41). David Hughes D’Aeth (17) and young Theo Wetherall (17) then made relatively brief but useful contributions before Brendon eventually fell after a well constructed innings of 94. The innings ended after 51 overs at 221 for 8. In reply, the visitors immediately found themselves 2 wickets down for only 3 runs, Nouman Aslam having castled the opener with the first ball of the innings. Nouman then bowled unchanged for 21 overs and continued to take wickets; ending with impressive figures of 6 for 64, his second six wicket haul in three weeks. Chris Royals, Ollie Anderson and Suresh were also amongst the wickets and the end for the End came when the final wicket fell for 151 in the 43rd over.
Unfortunately both the 3rd and 4th X1s were soundly beaten. The 3rds lost to Princes Risborough 1sts by 78 runs, with Joe Turrell taking 4 for 68 and Waqas Butt top scoring with 41. The 4ths were beaten by 7wickets by Tring Park 3rds with Luke Saunders taking all 3 wickets for 23 and Ben Woodward maintaining his recent good form with 31.
