Chesham CC w/e 22nd July
The weather gods obviously listened to Chesham’s prayers at the Meadow when the home side, having lost an important toss to Shipton under Wychwood on a rain affected pitch, found themselves in the parlous position of 70 for 8 at lunch. Rain then caused the abandonment without further resumption, much to the obvious disappointment of the visitors. For Shipton, opening bowlers Anupam (5 for 42) and Scott Harris (3 for 22) made early inroads in helpful conditions and continued to bowl unchanged until lunch. Only Robin Pritchard (17), Matt Rance (10) and Dominic Goodman (16*) reached double figures. Goodman in particular showed good temperament and technique to survive 41 balls. Umar Aslam also held firm until the interval in spite of seldom locating the ball with his bat. He contended that he was leaving the ball deliberately. As the persistent rain caused the abandonment of all the Home Counties League games Chesham remain in 3rd position. All games in the Thames Valley League were also abandoned.
Last Sunday the Chesham Women’s team lost their unbeaten league record when losing to Ealing by 39 runs in a hard fought match. Ealing batted first and scored rapidly but lost wickets at regular intervals against some incisive Chesham bowling to be dismissed for 117 in the 23rd over. Leading bowlers for Chesham were Hannah Francis (3 for 16) Laura Gurney (2 for 9) and Lorett Bredencamp (2 for20). In reply Chesham got off to a poor start losing 3 for 10 before Tracy Sturges (23) and Lara Gurney (27) steadied the ship. After their dismissal the innings subsided to an all out total of 78 in the 28th over.
