Chesham CC Weekly Report – w/e 9th September

Three sets of silverware for the Chesham club in the past week. First the Under 17s beat High Wycombe by 34 runs in a T20 match to become winners of both the Bucks Board League and Cup. Batting first Chesham totalled 158 for 4 with a good opening parnership by Nouman Aslam (33) and Mark Dawson (27) followed by a hard hitting stand between Mark Newsom (43) and Theo Wetherall (38). Good bowling by skipper Joseph Rance (3 for22), Humza Alam (2 for 30) and Nouman Alam (1 for 14) , backed up by tigerish fielding, restricted Wycombe to 124 for 8.

On Saturday at the Meadow, Chesham Women beat Harrow Town by 7 wickets to win the Women’s Four Counties League Cup. Harrow were invited to bat first and lost early wickets to Charlotte Villiers-Smith and Lorett Bredencamp before slumping to 29 for 5, Karen Mintern and Natasha MacBean each claiming a wicket. There followed a good partnership to reach a final total of 72 for 7 wickets, which included two run outs, the result of good fielding.  Chesham’s reply began with a sound opening stand by Charlotte Villiers-Smith (27*) and Hannah Francis (11) then followed by a match winning partnership between Charlotte and skipper Harriet Stone (19). With the scores level, two wickets fell in the penultimate over leaving it to Tracey Sturges to nudge the winning run. The ladies then celebrated a fine team effort with considerable enthusiasm but sadly wasted much of the champagne. Thanks are due to Brendon for all his work coaching and organisation
