Final League Weekend - 2nds Promoted!!

10 Sep 2014

The final weekend of league cricket saw some great performances on the pitch.

1st Team
The 1sts ended with a good win against Falkland. After bowling Falkland out for 219, with 3 wickets for Matt Rance, we then chased the runs for the loss of 6 wickets, led by a fine 91 from Matt Rance. Great to finish a tough season with a win, and the 1sts will look to bounce straight back up into the Premier League again next year.

2md Team
A defeat for the 2nds against Marlow Park, who scored 224 despite 3 wickets for Pete Clifford. In reply Chesham were all out for 192, despite 50's for Graham Rance and Patrick Rigby. However, this was good enough for the 2nds to be promoted to Division 2 next season - well done to Matt and his team who overcame a slow start to achieve back to back promotions.

3rd Team
The 3rds won a 5th consecutive game - but remarkably this did not prove enough to survive and they have been relegated by 1 point! Hillingdon Manor set the 3rds 180 to win, a result achieved with the loss of 6 wickets. As with the 1st team the 3rds can be confident that they will bounce straight back up - indeed taking just the 2nd half of the season they would have been top of the table so they just need to start playing earlier!!

4th Team
The 4ths unfortunately lost to Hillingdon Manor, a defeat which has ruled out their chances of promotion. A disappointing end to a fine season for Jon Franks and his team who were on track for promotion until a stutter in the final 3 games of the season.

On Sundays both teams will remain in the leagues they played in this season, which given very poor early season availability is an achievement in itself so well done to Jack Maciver and his 1st team and Chris Royals' 2nd team too. The Sunday 3rds gave a lot of youngsters an introduction to adult cricket in a non league environment and it is hoped some of those lads will be ready and available to play in Saturday and Sunday league cricket next season.

So a somewhat disappointing season as a club has ended but with many reasons to be optimistic. The number one target next season must be to try and achieve more regular availability as probably 3 of our teams will be playing at a lower standard than they could be playing next season due to at times very poor club availability and this will doubtless be disappointing to guys who will end up playing less challenging cricket than they are capable off next season.

Winter well and try and support any events organised at the club over the close season!
