Chesham CC 29TH August
Chesham had their hopes of promotion badly dented when they suffered a heavy defeat at Yately. Feeling obliged to bat first in order to obtain maximum 25 points they encountered a difficult pitch with which only Andy Goddard (25) and Dan Babula (30*) remotely came to terms. Dismissed for an inadequate total of 107 they were then unable to contain the Yately batsmen who passed their total for the loss of only 3 wickets.
A much better day for all three remaining sides however. In Div 2a the 2nd X1 raced home to a 7 wicket victory against British Airways who batted freely to reach 258 for 8 off 52 overs. Chesham attacked this score with gusto with David Hughes D’Aeth playing many fine strokes in his impressive 111. Tom Free (44) supported him well in a century partnership before Ollie Turner (53*) guided his side home with 6 overs to spare in an undefeated partnership with Matt Watson (36*).
Another good win for the 3rd X1 keeps them a single point below the leaders, and also guarantees them at least 2nd place and promotion. Chesham totalled 234 for 4 dec off 50 overs with major contributions from Mark Hughes D’Aeth (90) and the inevitable Mo Asuaf (58*). Asuaf was also successful with the ball (5 for 27) and with Sam Rance taking (4for 41) Farnham Common were dismissed for 148 in the 49th over.
The 4th X1 also had a good win in Div 8b over Stoke Green 2nds. James Skelton hit a century and Usman Zafar (89) in Chesham’s impressive total of 255-8 dec off 43 overs before dismissing Stoke Green for 213 in the 38th over. As with the 3rds, this result guarantees promotion for the 4ths.
The week end finished well with Chesham Under 14s comfortably retaining the Bucks Board Cup in beating Cublington (75 all out) by 6 wickets.
