Match report A massive batting collapse left Chesham on the end of a hiding from local rivals Amersham in the Bucks Cup. Despite a late flurry, Chesham were quite happy with Amersham's total of 219, and at 80-2 at drinks Chesham were confident of a successful chase. However, Chesham's batsmen succumbed to Amersham's overseas spinner Douglas and eight wickets fell for 40 runs and the game was up.
Earlier Chesham had controlled much of the game. Tom Turner removed key man Bruce Freidrichs for 3 and a tight 18 over period of spin bowled by Chris Royals and Matt Rance had Amersham in trouble. Amersham's middle order batted sensibly, however, and that allowed them to take advantage in the latter overs of the innings, being by far the better side after the second break for hail storms.
Matt Rance, Andy Goddard, Barney Atkins and Matt Yeabsley got Chesham's reply off to a solid start but after drinks it was the Luke Douglas show and Chesham had no answer and on a bitterly cold day at Shardeloes, Chesham's Bucks Cup ambitions died within hours of the campaign beginning.
Next week Chesham will look to bounce back with a National Cup game against Beaconsfield.
