Match report With The Meadow hosting its first Division 1 fixture in a number of seasons, Chesham 1st XI put down a far better marker of this young side's talent than was displayed at Finchampsted last week with a dominating performance seeing for a strong Beaconsfield side.
The tone was set from the start as Jack Maciver picked up early wickets, and the pressure was piled on the visitors with Nemi Odhiambo steaming in from the other end. Both were unlucky not to pick up a couple more wickets, but with Matt Rance coming on first change and producing one of his best ever bowling displays, Beaconsfield never really got any respite despite a good knock from Adam Francis.
The pressure never relented and as Chesham's fielding reached for the first time this season the heights of last season's efforts, Beaconsfield wilted to 149 all out.
There was no complacency in the Chesham ranks, with most remembering the abject collapse in the Cup against the same side, however this was a different wicket and a different day. Andy Goddard's 48 was unhurried but exactly what was needed to blunt a good Beaconsfield attack, and coupled with a cautious 33 from Barney Atkins and a powerful innings from Jason Rance, it was more than enough to see Chesham home by 5 wickets with some ease.
Chesham will rightly take great heart from this performance, which will certainly be needed as a strong Datchet side visit The Meadow on Saturday.
