Berkhamsted v Chesham Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 12 May 2013 at 14:00
Chesham Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report On an afternoon where the weather was as miserable as Mark's general demeanor, Chesham's Sunday 2s began their 2013 campaign with an emphatic win over Berkhamsted.
The wicket was green, understandably so, and Berkhamsted found themselves under pressure early as their top order contrived to dismiss themselves in a variety of bizarre ways with assistance from the pitch. The main beneficiary of this display of hara kiri was the yellow chino sporting Big Al who, with the assistance of a great spell from Jamie Anderson, had all but confirmed the victors of this encounter inside the first 10 overs. When Guy Fowler joined in the action, bamboozling the batsmen with an array of long hops and full tosses, Berko found themselves 20-5 and the game was in severe danger of becoming an exercise in futility.
Ben Woodward to the rescue.
For the third time I found myself breaking my promise of never bowling him again and with a display of flight and guile he enabled a contest to develop, with the help of some decent batting from Berko and a wayward final over from Fowler.
This spell of the game probably dented the figures of those that followed, particularly those of the newest candidate for the slowest runner in the club award, Mikey Burden. Nevertheless he deserved his two wickets, if not his economy rate and eventually Big Al returned to pick up a distinctly average fivefer, despite being hit one handed for four, and Berko were all out for 121.

After a good but perhaps "Too Corporate" (M.Watson, 2013) tea, our familiar opening partnership of Turner and Hughes-D'Aeth took to the crease to begin the chase. MHD missed his chance of running out Ed three years running against Berkhamsted as Turner was well caught. He then took a back seat to a display of ferocious hitting/slapping the ball through square leg from yours truly as in a piece of Gayle-esque hitting Royals reached 68* inside of 10 overs of batting and Chesham reached their target after 15 overs.
I promised myself that I'd never use the 100% record joke after one game again so I'll take the high road, but this was an efficient performance that bodes well for the rest of the season, as did the sight of 10 of the side enjoying themselves in The Santhi post-match.
Next up is a trip to Northwood Town, the site of the greatest Sunday 2s win of all time. It should be a cracking encounter.
