Aldenham v Chesham Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 07 Jul 2013 at 14:00
Chesham Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report When a club cricketer dreams of days to play cricket they no doubt dream of blue skies and hot weather. When it comes to actually playing in it, however, it is pretty exhausting and nowhere near as much fun as it ought to be.
This was found out the hard way by the Sunday 2s at Aldenham on Sunday. Drinks breaks every 15 overs, a toss done with a cigarette lighter and a rapid outfield greeted the away team and with the skipper correctly calling 'sticker side', most of the side could at least have some respite from the ridiculous heat. It would be fair to describe our batting lineup as 'Old School Sunday 2s' or, less diplomatically, 'terrible'. The sight of Chris Royals (40) strolling out at number three can't have given the travelling Chesham support (Lucy) much confidence. However, he combined with Mark Hughes-D'Aeth (56), who very nearly hit a six again and look fluent, in an effective partnership, combining agricultural swings with intelligent running and a six over the pavilion. No doubt George Holden can't wait to hear about it.
When both were dismissed in quick succession and James White made it 8 ducks in 10 innings in 2013, we were in danger of sinking without a trace. Guy Fowler and Charlie Wood combined to ensure that didn't happen and we got to tea with a respectable score of 206 all out.
Tea was decent, helped by the late addition of very spicy wings, but was less impressive for those who don't love cheese and pickle sandwiches as much as this reporter does.
After a number of cheese and pickle sandwiches the very same reporter decided to open with spin (Sam Rance) and himself and despite being economical it didn't bring about the early wickets desired. Enter Big Al who struggled to max out bowling like he has the leg machine and tried valiantly to bowl in the batsman's half depsite the major hindrance of a gentle slope.
Devan Owen, on debut, bowled excellently and frustrated the Aldenham top order and can claim as much a part of the run out that followed as did James White. If that's possible.
As the overs counted down, Charlie Wood overcame a ridiculous run up to bowl superbly, but it wasn't quite enough and Aldenham got home with an over and a bit to go.
Special mention should be made of both Ben Woodward's umpiring and James Baldwin's keeping, it isn't easy being under the lid for over 40 overs aged 12, particularly when you get lidded twice in the first two overs! The main highlight of him playing, however, was his description of his PE technician MHD as "not inspiring". Never a truer word spoken...
Next week we open the pavilion and welcome Northwood Town to The Meadow
