Chesham Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Northwood Town on Sun 14 Jul 2013 at 13:30
Chesham Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report Well it is hard to moan too much about losing this game, though no doubt I tried at points yesterday. Perhaps a fairly key decision went against us, perhaps we didn't score quite enough runs, perhaps we didn't put the ball in the right place to restrict a hard hitting Northwood Town batting lineup in the way we needed to, and we were certainly not the same side that beat Totteridge in our last league outing. However, the visiting skipper Loomba hit one of the better hundreds you'll see at this level and through that guided his side to a deserved victory.
He did give us a chance, Mark dropped him.... on 108. However by then the damage had been done as Chesham's numerous boundary riders donned the hard hats, with there being little respite to the onslaught. Most of the Chesham bowlers were better than their figures - the wicket was flatter than the Autobahn just outside of Frankfurt and the outfield was more rapid than anything I have seen before. It was simply one of those days where there wasn't a whole lot more we could have done, aside from the obvious decision to bowl Woodward that was cruelly overlooked by the skipper.
Earlier in the day Woodward was struggling to cope with his first proper hangover courtesy of having Jager-bombs at a barbecue. Stay classy. No doubt he, and the rest of the side, were grateful that Chris Royals won the toss and chose to bat on yet another scorching day.
The bookies had already paid out on the first dismissal by the time JR had raised the finger to send Misseldine on his way LBW, after which MHD decided to torture us all by reaching 35 off 34 overs, giving the Northwood infield a lot of practice in the process, whilst Pat Rigby hit an excellent 66 from the other end. Chesham accelerated madly in the last 15 overs, MHD finding his way out of first gear, ably supported by a classy innings of 34 from the returning Suli and 29 from Chris Royals that was more agricultural than the American Mid-West.
After a tea including the promised Marote home made cakes, Northwood Town raced to 50-0 after 4 overs which should, in hindsight, have given us a clue as to how the game would end. Heads dropped further when one of the Northwood openers decided he didn't fancy leaving the crease as the ball had only carried to shin height when MHD took the catch, but when he was eventually removed (and given a send off by Lee from the scorer's table in the funniest moment I've seen on a cricket pitch in quite some time) the number 3 looked fairly handy as well. After Loomba reached his well deserved hundred Chesham roared back into the match through some smart bowling from PHD and Guy Fowler, however it was just a little bit too late and a couple more huge hits ended the match.
An excellent and highly enjoyable game of cricket and one that, for one opening batsman from Northwood, should live long in the memory. I just hope he bought a jug.
