Match report The Sunday 2nd XI season ended with a comfortable victory at Pinkneys Green. As is traditional, being the last match of the season roles were mixed up and an unlikely Chesham top three of Fowler, Royals and Wood strolled out somewhat less than confidently to face the new ball. Fowler and Royals' opening stand of 36 probably would have smashed the record Sunday 2s opening stand of 2011, but this has been a better season and so the applause as Royals returned having walked for an LBW and Fowler hit one straight up in the air was almost solely ironic. Whilst Charlie Wood dropped anchor for a tedious 3 off 27 balls, Henry Morris played a great knock of 45 before falling short of a deserved 50. Also bottling a far rarer chance at a 50 was Alex Watson, who to much laughter picked out mid wicket perfectly off a long hop. Rain descended after 35 overs so our innings closed on 178, about par.
Tea was good but after that it became clear our hosts were getting nowhere near the target. The bowling was mixed around with all 10 fielders bowling whilst Alex Watson brought wicket keeping into disrepute. The tail wagged a bit but there was never any danger of Chesham losing this match.
And so we headed to The Santhi for the End of Season Curry. Awards were given out and Alex was abused and we all enjoyed one final chance to reminisce about a highly enjoyable season that culminated in a promotion. I can only hope that there is the same level of hilarity, stupidity and banter next year as we move on to the heady heights of Division 5.
