Aldenham v Chesham Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 29 Jun 2014 at 14:00
Chesham Cricket Club Lost by 68 runs

Match report The Sunday 2s nearly clung on for a hard fought draw at Aldenham on Sunday but the 10 man side were dismissed with just three balls to play after an entertaining day of cricket.
After a longer than expected McDonald's pit stop on the A41, Chesham took to the field just 10 minutes after arrival at Aldenham and James White managed to put in a far better shift with the new ball than his 17 wide performance at Ickenham. Aldenham's batsmen were strong, particularly number 3 Munroe who hit an excellent century. He gave one chance, hitting George Holden out to long on. It seemed an easy catch from cover until I saw the sight of Guy Fowler tearing in at full pace almost past the ball... Guy "I've had 2 hours sleep" Fowler provided a rare highlight in a tough bowling stint by managing to hit a batsman in the face with a bouncer that was on it's way down by the time it reached the batsman. Fortunately it was so slow that no damage was done.
Special mention to Abhiraj on his senior debut, being forced into 13 overs of bowling in tough conditions.
250 wasn't totally outrageous as a target score after a really good tea but with 10 men and a weak batting line up hopes weren't high. However, Guy Fowler (44) and Paul Hughes-D'Aeth (49) provided Chesham with an excellent and entertaining opening partnership with Paul cruelly missing out on a 50 after Ben Fletcher refused a run to the boundary. However, in his own words "I'm not the one who creamed it straight at square leg" which is hard to argue with. Aldenham's wily bowlers now wore down the Chesham middle order, leaving the last pair of George Holden and Abhiraj "I don't bat" Patel to see off the last 5 overs for a draw. George did most of the work, looking very comfortable at the crease. However Abhiraj's prediction of his own batting proved accurate and Aldenham's Munroe took the winning catch to add to his ton, three more catches and a wicket. If that isn't a Man of the Match performance I don't know what is.
Overall a good game of cricket against very friendly opposition who it was a pleasure to play against and I look forward to next year's visit. Next Sunday sees a return to Chess Valley League action as we welcome St John's Wood to The Meadow for a must win game.
