Match report The 2014 season started as the previous ended, with Amersham visiting the Meadow although this time the match ended in defeat. In a bizarre innings, Amersham posted 179 batting first. Joubert blasted 60 from 40 balls opening up, with part-timers Ed Turner and Mark Hughes-D’aeth bearing the brunt of the onslaught. However, in what is becoming traditional, Amersham’s top and middle order collapsed to the off spin of Rance, in this case Samuel (5-26), in conjunction with Umar Aslam (3-16), who turned the screw in a period of 51-9 in the middle overs. The lower order, led by Ali (27*) played sensibly and saw them up to a good score.

Chesham’s reply got off to the worst possible start with Hughes-D’aeth falling first ball, and the top order fell to 16-3 early on. Graham Rance (29) and Matt Watson (51) grafted to recover the innings but Amersham’s total always looked beyond us, despite entertaining efforts from Rance (19) and Aslam (27)in the lower order resulting in a loss by 21 runs.

Always disappointing to lose, but a decent run out before the league season starts next week in Division 3. An exciting season ahead, with a new pavilion and a triple promotion under our belts and it was good to see so many players, of both teams, stay after the match.
