Chesham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Tring Park 2nd XI on Sat 23 Jul 2022 at 13:00
Chesham Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Ah the relegation six pointer, it comes around faster every year and is in real danger of becoming too commercialised. What's behind this predicament?
Could it be our tendency to drop an amount of catches that can only be accurately described as 'giga'?
Maybe our penchant for some patented Chesham head loss?
Or maybe it was the arrival at the club of our new leader Sugar.
For those who are yet to meet Sugar, he is a plastic duck procured by Terry Newsome in a Vegas bar. Conveniently Sugar can contain up to two and a half pints of 61 deep and has rapidly developed it's own personality. Sugar does not look kindly upon poor Chesham performances, but seems to be a recurring theme through the recent struggles. Could we break the Sugar curse?

Regular foes Tring Park arrived at The Meadow in desperate need of a win, and a six week run without a win saw Chesham beginning to flirt dangerously with the drop zone. The weather was ideal, track flat and both sides were very much up for it.

Big Al inserted the visitors and opted to lead from the front. His first over was genuinely impressive with even a hint of movement as opener Singh snicked off a couple of times, fortuitously finding the gaps in the cordon. Tring were under pressure from the get go and never really recovered. 7-2 called for rebuilding but the run rate never got going. Pick of the bowlers was Matty (3-24), which seemed unlikely when he turned up 15 minutes late and exceptionally sad, and then bowled six aggressively poor long hops to start his spell. From there he barely bowled a bad ball and proceeded to spend the entire second innings repeating his figures to anyone who would listen and plenty who would not.
Royler's 14 overs were similarly economical and the man with the tiny head returned to clean up Tring's tail just shy of their 52, with 145 the score to beat.

Could we inflict a crushing defeat? If we planned to we went about it the wrong way as the deathly slow spin of Zaman claimed three early victims, including two wickets from full tosses in an over.
28-3, Tring going nuts and now seemingly on top despite not bowling a good ball, absolutely peak Chesham.
Thankfully Theo and Henry provided an increasingly reassuring background watch to the intense best tank/ship/plane of the War discussion that was getting reasonably heated on the veranda (Sherman, Warspite, Mosquito, for the record).
As the runs ticked down Tring, who I think it would be fair to say had been chirpy, went pretty quiet. The last roll of the dice of introducing some change bowlers backfired as Theo sent them into orbit, and before you could even say 'the Mosquito is the greatest plane of the War because it was made almost entirely of wood and was still the fastest operational plane in the world in 1941 and was useful in just about any operational environment you could name' the game was over. Chesham victors by seven wickets.

Sugar appeared to be delighted with the side's efforts, as was our by now shirtless President. Next up Marlow.

Notes & General Remarks:
- 'we really should finish fourth from here, just behind Kew, Wraysbury, Uxbridge and Marlow' 'Al that would make us fifth' '...'
- Ballinger car park
- Thanks for coming Luke
- Santosh outscored by his sister two weeks running
- Niall's uncanny ability to arrive as Brendan gets out so he can demand a net with menaces
- 'what have I done to deserve such poor fielding off my bowling?' Grow up
